Fujitsu Semiconductor and Vee TIME announce collaboration for first portable WiMAX-WiFi router

SINGAPORE: Fujitsu Semiconductor Asia Pte Ltd (FSAL) has announced its collaboration with Vee TIME Corp. in Taiwan to release the CW6200i portable WiMAX-WiFi router, which adopts the second generation mobile WiMAX solutions from Fujitsu Semiconductor.

Currently, Fujitsu’s WiMAX chip set (MB86K23 baseband chip and MB86K73/74 RF module) is in mass-production.

Being a high-performance portable WiMAX-WiFi router, the CW6200i is equipped with Fujitsu’s highly-integrated WiMAX technologies and will provide wireless broadband Internet access for multiple users via Vee TIME Corporation’s WiMAX network.

In the short span of only four months since Vee TIME's WiMAX service first became available, it has already exceeded 10,000 subscribers, making Vee TIME the first WiMAX operator in Taiwan to have over 10,000 users.

Vee TIME points out that the newly-released CW6200i WiMAX-WiFi router in collaboration with Fujitsu not only has a slim and sexy industrial design, but also outstanding performance due to the use of the new-generation chips.

“It is a great pleasure to have the opportunity to collaborate with Fujitsu, whose superior technology, design and manufacturing capacity as well as extensive project management experience has enabled Vee TIME to develop this unique product at a highly competitive cost. I believe that this product will be yet another outstanding success for Vee TIME” said Dr. Yannan Huang, president of Vee TIME.

“Taiwan’s WiMAX industry is undergoing continuous development at a steady speed. It is a great honor for us to collaborate with Vee TIME Corporation and join in the development of Taiwan’s WiMAX industry,” said Michael Shih, chairman and CEO of Fujitsu Semiconductor of Asia Pacific.

“We believe that Fujitsu’s diversified product lines and solutions are indispensable parts of the WiMAX Eco-System, and promise that Fujitsu will be continually present in the field of future wireless communication.”

Oswald Wong, MD of Sirius Mobility, Fujitsu’s strategic partner in Taiwan, stated that ”cooperating with Fujitsu Semiconductor will enable our products to enter the mass-production stage within a shorter time frame. We hope that by leveraging the technical support and services provided by Sirius Mobility and Fujitsu, Vee TIME Corporation’s WiMAX service will be further improved.”
