Analog Devices intros highly integrated hot swap controller and digital power monitor with PMBus interface

NORWOOD, USA: Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) is introducing the highly integrated ADM1275 hot-swap controller and power monitor for 2-20V input supplies.

The new controller/monitor provides best in class power monitoring accuracy of 0.7 percent current sense accuracy with only 20 mV insertion loss when compared to alternative solutions. The ADM1275 enables accurate measurement of incoming power to allowing the system to take intelligent actions to reduce power consumption.

By limiting inrush current during power up and enabling faster shutdown whenever an over current event happens, system reliability is improved. Over and under voltage monitoring of the backplane voltage ensures that circuit boards only operate when the backplane voltage is within specification. The new device also features current and voltage readback via an integrated 12- bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), communicated through a PMBus interface.

“With 0.7 percent current sense accuracy and only 20 mV insertion loss when compared to alternative solutions that only provide ± 5.1 percent current sense accuracy with 20 mV insertion loss, ADI offers the highest performance available,” said Nigel Brooke, Product Marketing Manager, Power Management Technology Group, Analog Devices.

“When you combine <300ns response time to ‘Short Circuit’, more accurate measurements of incoming power and greater circuit board protection, power system designers can offer safer, more intelligent, and more reliable systems that reduce power consumption and increase system efficiency.”
