Sigma Designs' HomePlug AV CG2110 SoC earns LAN certification

MILPITAS, USA: Sigma Designs, a leading provider of system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for delivering entertainment and control throughout the home, announced that its HomePlug AV CG2110 chipset has been certified compliant by the HomePlug Powerline Alliance through the Laboratoire des Applications Numeriques (LAN) certification process.

With this certification, Sigma will now deliver its signature innovation and unparalleled technology to HomePlug AV products that distribute video, audio, and data through the home.

“The CG2110 chipset passed its certification testing with ease, but most notably, the Sigma team brought a level of professionalism and organization to the review process,” said Vincent Buchoux, CTO at LANPark. “Their preparation for this approval made the process seamless, which ultimately led to certification on their first attempt.”

Based on the HomePlug AV v1.1 specification, the CG2110 chipset is designed for home AV networking - video, audio, data, and voice - over existing AC power lines. Featuring guaranteed QoS, the CG2110 chipset efficiently utilizes network resources for multiple simultaneous streams of real time high-definition video, audio, voice, and data in the presence of best effort data transfers.

“The Sigma HomePlug AV CG2110 is designed to deliver rich media content reliably throughout the home,” said Gabi Hilevitz, vice president and general manager of Sigma Designs’ Home Connectivity business unit.

“Since we helped contribute to the HomePlug Powerline specification, our expertise made it possible for us to get our exciting new product through the LAN approval process quickly. Now, more than a dozen companies are building Sigma-enabled solutions with the assurance that our products have passed the critical LAN testing process.”
