LSI announces accelerator card for next-generation network services

MILPITAS, USA: LSI Corp. has announced the Axxia network accelerator, designed to provide ultra-low latency acceleration for next-generation networking applications.

The PCI Express-based intelligent accelerator card and bundled software enables OEMs to offer an easy-to-deploy solution that offloads compute-intensive networking functions in enterprise and data center applications.

The Axxia network accelerator provides OEMs a solution for real-time, deterministic acceleration of applications such as network monitoring, server load balancing, unified threat management (UTM), application delivery control and low-latency packet processing at speeds of up to 20 Gbps. It is designed for use in enterprise, data center and service provider networks, offloading the host processor resulting in a performance boost, lower power consumption and faster time-to-market.

"As the amount of traffic flowing through the world's networks continues to grow, so does the need for scalable and flexible offload solutions," said Joseph Byrne, senior analyst, The Linley Group. "The Axxia network accelerator offers a platform for OEMs to efficiently deliver next-generation services."

The accelerator card ships with a broad set of application development kits for acceleration of functions such as network access control, monitoring, application recognition, security processing, traffic management, IPSec and SSL virtual private networks, and application intelligence. Using the development kits allows OEMs the ability to customize the accelerator card for specific applications and to quickly respond to their end customer needs.

"OEMs are faced with an ever-increasing set of complex network functions that require line-speed processing," said William Choe, vice president of marketing, Networking Components Division, LSI. "The Axxia network accelerator provides a significant performance increase through intelligent acceleration, saves development time and gets our customers to market faster."
