SAN JOSE, USA: Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) has announced that its CPS-1848 Serial RapidIO Gen2 switch is providing the foundation for an evolving Serial RapidIO ecosystem and is being rapidly adopted by several vendors, including CommAgility and N.A.T.
“With our initial launch, the CPS-1848 helped enable the OpenVPX™ market and now we are seeing adoption in the ATCA and MicroTCA markets,” said Fred Zust, vice president and general manager of the Communications division at IDT. “OEMs are now able to develop multi-AMC signal processing solutions while leveraging the low latency, 20 Gbps throughput, messaging capability and topology-agnostic networks possible with IDT Serial RapidIO Gen2 switches.”
The IDT CPS-1848 Serial RapidIO Gen2 switch has been selected by CommAgility for use in its new AMC-V6 Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC) featuring the Xilinx Virtex 6 FPGA with mezzanine expansion capability for future Serial RapidIO Gen2 DSPs. Also, the IDT CPS-1848 Serial RapidIO Gen2 switch has been selected by N.A.T. for use in its MicroTCA Carrier Hub (MCH) AMC.
“Using the IDT CPS-1848 in our AMC-V6 AdvancedMC card, we are able to offer one of the industry’s highest-performance digital signal processing solutions while also leveraging IDT’s industry-best 20 Gbps per port CPS-1848, exceeding what we could achieve with 10 Gigabit Ethernet,” said Edward Young, managing director at CommAgility.
“Our customers in the wireless baseband, semiconductor processing, medical imaging, radar and sonar markets will be able to deliver real-time signal processing performance for production systems with more resolution and a better operator experience than existing solutions.”
“We are excited to be first to market with our RapidIO Gen2-enabled MicroTCA Carrier Hub AMC. In doing so, we are making the entire market for RapidIO-enabled MicroTCA systems possible well ahead of the competition,” said Heiko Koerte, vice president and director of sales and marketing at N.A.T.
“Leveraging our past experience with IDT in RapidIO 1.3, this was a natural progression for us. By including the IDT CPS-1848, our customers in the communications, aerospace and defense, and medical industries can benefit from the doubled data rate and sub-100ns latency.”
In addition, IDT is making available its Gen2 Serial RapidIO Development Platform (SRDP2), a hardware platform using the IDT CPS-1848 and CPS-1616 switches along with multiple AMC slots and banks of SMA, InfiniBand and QSFP connectors. This platform provides a complete hardware environment for early OEM software and firmware development.
Finally, to support the IDT strategy of bridging PCI Express (PCIe) processors to Serial RapidIO networks, Silicon Turnkey Express recently launched the PCIe-SRIO EVM. The card runs at PCIe Gen1 and RapidIO 1.3 speeds using the IDT Tsi620 multiprotocol switch for RapidIO to PCI and Tsi384 for PCI-to-PCIe bridging.
The solution, available in advance of IDT PCIe Gen2-to-Serial RapidIO Gen2 bridging products, provides imaging, industrial and aerospace customers with a prototyping solution to use PCIe processors with RapidIO networks.
