IEEE Council on EDA Design Technology Council elects new chair, vice chair

NEW YORK, USA: The Design Technology Council (DTC) of the IEEE Council on EDA (CEDA) elected Thomas Harms, director of EDA Alliances at Infineon Technologies, as its chair during its member meeting at the Design Automation Conference in June.

Bill Read, design technology strategy and operations at Freescale Semiconductor, was named vice chair. Both will serve in these roles through July 2011.

DTC, formed under CEDA last year, focuses on the viewpoint of the major EDA users to identify future needs of system and semiconductor communities toward the EDA industry. It identifies emerging design challenges and capability gaps, including functionalities, EDA tool interoperability and standards, and best practices and business models to access design tools and flows.

This EDA user group coordinates with existing standards development organizations, such as Accellera, the IEEE DA Standards Committee and the Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2).

Member companies include AMD, Broadcom, Ericsson, Freescale Semiconductor, HP, IBM, Infineon Technologies, Intel, LSI Corporation, Oracle, STMicroelectronics, STARC and Texas Instruments.
