Locally-driven Taiwan solutions highlight Fairchild's leadership in power performance and mobile markets

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) is a leading global supplier of high performance power and mobile products. As such, the company’s Taiwan operations are a key element of global new product development, making Taiwan a critical piece of the company’s business and technology initiatives aimed at future strategic growth.

Adrian Chu, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing, Asia Pacific, highlighted Fairchild’s power and mobile solutions to solve customers’ differentiation challenges and an overview of the company’s business in the region:

Chu said: “Taiwan is a significant contributor to Fairchild’s bottom line and contributed 42 percent of Greater China’s revenue in 2009. This validates our clearly-defined, highly successful Asia business strategy which includes building a strong presence in the Taiwan market and the deployment of our unique locally-driven solutions approach for both local and worldwide customers.”

Reflecting on the importance of the Taiwan market to Fairchild, the company has been steadily strengthening its presence in the country since it first established operations there in 1997.

Today, Fairchild has a team of more than 230 in Taiwan, 100 are highly-skilled engineers; 36 percent hold Master Degrees and above. Fairchild also established its Taipei Global Power ResourceSM Center (GPRC) where the team, consisting of 30 engineers, is focused on developing innovative solutions for areas most relevant to the local customer base. Fairchild has six GPRCs around the world and half of them are based in Greater China. The centers have been awarded more than 190 patents, including 105 in the United States, 43 in China and 45 in Taiwan.

Eric Lan, vice president, Marketing & Application, Asia Pacific, commented, “Our Taipei GPRC team has developed over 30 solution driven evaluation boards to meet customer needs covering a varied application range including PC power, computing, consumer, display, adapter and charger, motion, industrial, LED lighting and printer segments.”

Lan also outlined the technical contributions Fairchild has made to Taiwan and the global markets, and featured solutions targeting applications such as AC/DC Notebook adaptors, cellphone chargers, LCD TVs and LED lighting solutions.

Joseph Tzou, Taiwan country manager, spoke about Fairchild’s local presence and global reach. He added, “Fairchild works closely with our customers in Taiwan to develop designs that help them differentiate their end applications, meeting their design challenges and providing a comprehensive portfolio of industry-leading solutions targeting Notebook, Netbook Mobile, Desktop, LCD panel and consumer goods markets.”

Tzou updated attendees on some of Fairchild’s major design wins in Taiwan such as its total solution for Notebooks and Netbooks including system power, Vcore H/S, Vcore L/S, and switch as well as the highly integrated Green mode PWM controller for 15W DVD adaptors, LCD TV, LED lighting, consumer electronics, and home appliances.
