Taiwan's Executive Yuan approves proposal for reformation of DRAM industry

TAIWAN: In order to develop independent technologies for the domestic DRAM industry, elevate the industry¡¦s international competitiveness, and eliminate the problems facing Taiwan's DRAM industry, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) developed the "Proposal for the Reformation of Taiwan's DRAM Industry," which was approved by the Executive Yuan on July 13, 2009 and announced on July 21.

Companies (including existing domestic manufacturers and new companies) interested in proposing DRAM industry reformation projects are encouraged to submit funding requests to the MOEA Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) within three months of the announcement date.

The IDB will soon hold a press conference to explain in detail the strategies of this DRAM industry reform, and companies that have shown interest will be invited for further discussion. The MOEA will establish a review board to examine project proposals from private companies. Once certified by the review board, said proposals will be submitted for Executive Yuan approval then transferred to the National Development Fund for funding arrangements.
