Santur selects Kotura for 100Gbps platform

MONTEREY PARK, USA: Kotura Inc., a leading provider of Silicon Photonics products, has been selected by Santur as a partner in its 100 Gbps platform.

Using a silicon photonics chip, Kotura’s 10-channel optical multiplexers combine multiple 100 Gbps channels onto a single fiber output, thereby reducing the packaging complexity by an order of magnitude.

“Santur required a strategic partner for Planar Lightwave Circuits ('PLCs') who could meet our aggressive market entry requirements. Kotura had the team and the technology to deliver on schedule,” said Paul Meissner, President and CEO of Santur. “We wanted to be the first company in the world to deliver 100 Gbps for client connectivity. Kotura played an essential role in our being first to market.”

“We are delighted to be working with Santur on their high-speed optical 100 GbE strategy,” added Jean-Louis Malinge, President and CEO of Kotura. “Whereas traditional solutions rely on hundreds of discrete components and a dozen fibers, our integration in a small silicon photonics chip is a critical factor that reduces the assembly complexity and decreases the power consumption.”

“The 100 Gbps market is an exciting space, and is coming much faster than many originally thought,” added Arlon Martin, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Kotura.

“To support high bandwidth video demand, servers are migrating from 1Gbps ports to 10Gbps ports. This is creating a bandwidth bottleneck at the next level of interconnect, driving Networking and data center companies to implement their 100Gbps cards now in order to solve this problem.”
