ANADIGICS expands family of small-cell wireless infrastructure power amplifiers

WARREN, USA: ANADIGICS Inc. introduced the AWB7223 small-cell power amplifier (PA). The AWB7223 expands ANADIGICS' portfolio of wireless infrastructure power amplifiers optimized for small-cell base station applications, including microcells, picocells and femtocells.

A recent report from Mobile Experts forecasts shipments of such equipment to grow from 2.6 million devices this year to over 20 million in 2014, emphasizing the need for small-cell solutions to support the growing capacity requirements of mobile broadband networks.

"Rising demand for mobile broadband will be the catalyst for a rapid deployment of small-cell wireless infrastructure devices," said Glenn Eswein, director of product marketing for broadband RF products at ANADIGICS. "The AWB7223 power amplifier delivers optimal performance for a new generation of microcells, picocells and femtocells that will enable high data rate connectivity for a larger base of subscribers. This expansion of ANADIGICS' small-cell power amplifier family solidifies our position as a leader in this area, and demonstrates our ability to address new high growth segments of the wireless market."

"ANADIGICS' new wireless infrastructure power amplifiers provide the ideal combination of output power, power-added efficiency, and linearity required to produce highly reliable, high performance small-cell base stations," said Joseph Cozzarelli, senior director of broadband RF products at ANADIGICS. "Our products enable designers and ultimately offer service providers greater flexibility in their efforts to expand network coverage economically and with exceptional system performance."

The AWB7223 PA provides best-in-class power efficiency at high levels of linear output power for WCDMA, HSPA, and LTE small-cell base stations operating in the 1930 MHz to 1990 MHz frequency band. This unique combination of critical performance parameters extends the range of small-cell base stations while enabling solutions that are more thermally-efficient and consume less power. ANADIGICS' complete family of small-cell wireless infrastructure power amplifiers are manufactured using the company's advanced InGaP HBT MMIC technology, which offers state-of-the-art reliability, temperature stability, and ruggedness.
