ZeroG Wireless, Freescale intro embedded Wi-Fi for Tower System

SUNNYVALE, USA: ZeroG Wireless Inc., a leading innovator in low-power embedded Wi-Fi, announced availability of the TWR-ZGWIFI development kit for the Freescale Semiconductor Tower System.

The result of a joint development program, the kit expands the connectivity capabilities of the Tower System, an advanced development and prototyping platform from Freescale. Simplifying system design, the embedded Wi-Fi module from ZeroG Wireless is optimized for applications with lower data rates, lower power consumption, and low system resource requirements.

The TWR-ZGWIFI development kit includes the Wi-Fi board with the ZeroG ZG2101 Wi-Fi I/O module and antenna. The kit also includes an instructional DVD, sample applications, and software drivers to quickly integrate it into the Tower System.

The jointly developed system offers seamless integration with Freescale's MQX operating system and requires minimal additional system resources to implement the ZeroG solution. Customers can transition to an FCC-approved Wi-Fi module much easier, lowering the overall cost, and can run sample applications using the kit in under a few hours.

"Our customers are looking for ways to bring Wi-Fi connectivity to their embedded applications - small appliances, building control, handheld devices, portable healthcare and wellness products," said Aiden Mitchell, director of Industrial and Multi-Market Microcontrollers at Freescale Semiconductor. "The Tower System along with ZeroG card is a winner. "We include our MQX RTOS along with a TCP/IP stack that is optimized with the ZG software libraries -- customers who have limited experience with Wi-Fi can quickly and easily deploy."

"The modular environment of the Tower System, which enables designers to easily add hardware capabilities, allows for the seamless integration of ZeroG's Wi-Fi I/O capabilities," said Tim Colleran, Vice President of Marketing at ZeroG Wireless. "Partnering with a leading microcontroller company, such as Freescale, allows a broad range of customers in many markets to benefit from the ZeroG embedded Wi-Fi solution".

The TWR-ZGWIFI is available now for a suggested retail price of $59
