Fairchild Semiconductor extends analog video filter leadership

SAN JOSE, USA: Fairchild Semiconductor offers designers of High Definition LCD-TVs, Blue Ray DVD players and HD set-top boxes the industry’s first 6-Channel integrated video filter with 1080p HD capability.

This new device simultaneously supports three channels of 1080p HD with filtering at 75 MHz and three channels of SD at 8 MHz. This 6-Channel video filter also offers very robust ESD protection of 9kV, protecting applications from adverse electrostatic discharge events and eliminating the need for discrete protection devices. Part of the industry’s largest portfolio of video filters, the FMS6646 is the second member of Fairchild’s video filter family to support 1080p HD.

Through integration, the FMS6646 reduces board space and complexity by eliminating numerous discrete filtering components as well as ESD protection diodes. The FMS6646 allows the inputs and outputs to be AC- or DC-coupled, reducing up to 12 components and saving as much as 10 percent board space, compared to a discrete implementation. This product has a wide operating range from 3V to 5V, increasing design flexibility.

The set-top box (STB) and Blue Ray markets are continuing to grow, driven largely by increasing demand for HD content and the expansion of video services into rural areas of the world.

Fairchild, with the industry’s largest selection of video filters supporting standard and high definition video applications and portable multimedia devices, is uniquely positioned to provide integrated products that support the entire range of video standards and channel configurations, while replacing multiple discrete components and conserving valuable board space.

The FMS6646, housed in a 20-pin TSSOP, is pin compatible with Fairchild's popular FMS6346 6-Channel SD/1080i HD video filter.
