SUNNYVALE, USA: Vivante Corp. announced that Arkmicro Technologies Inc. has licensed Vivante GPU IP for its newest mobile navigation and entertainment system-on-chip (SoC) designs.

Arkmicro--a fabless semiconductor company and one of the premier portable media IC design firms in China--designs, develops, and markets multimedia semiconductor products and solutions for a variety of portable consumer electronics products.

"The stunning visual effects offered by OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG 1.1 are driving a wide range of location based applications in markets around the globe," said Wei-Jin Dai, President and CEO of Vivante.

"The key to proliferation of next generation locality based applications is dramatically reducing the system and silicon cost of upgrading to the latest graphics standards with the highest image quality required at resolutions up to 1080p.

"As Vivante licensees prepare to power a new class of next generation graphics enabled GPS chipsets we are working with content providers to maximize the power of these devices. Vivante's R&D and applications support center in Shanghai enables us to work closely with both the rapidly growing application ecosystem and our licensees around the world with development teams in China."

Peter Shi, CEO of Arkmicro Technologies, added: "Vivante GPUs give us the outstanding visual graphics quality and performance we need to extend our leading media SoC family of solutions. In addition, their industry-best efficiency in system resource usage, die area and power consumption helps us to continue as a fast moving leader in portable multimedia IC products."
