Hannan named Program Officer, Student Relations Manager at SRC Education Alliance

DURHAM, USA: Eileen Hannan has been named program officer and student relations manager at SRC Education Alliance, Semiconductor Research Corp.’s initiative to get more students pursuing high-tech careers.

Hannan will manage the substantial and innovative Undergraduate Research Opportunities (URO) program that supports roughly 200 students annually doing cutting-edge research with faculty advisors. She will work with counterparts at the Alliance’s affiliated universities and corporations, coordinating programs and managing student relations.

Hannan joins SRC Education Alliance after managing the Public Service Scholars program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the past five and a half years. She was responsible for recruiting and training participants in the program that helps undergraduates strengthen their commitment to service through coursework and engagement with communities across North Carolina and around the world. Enrollment grew from 430 to 1,860 during her tenure.

Before earning a Master of Social Work with a concentration in management and community practice at UNC Chapel Hill, she served as an Americorps VISTA Volunteer for a year with Communities in Schools.

“Eileen has already become an indispensable member of the SRC Education Alliance team,” said executive director MaryLisabeth Rich. “Her experience, management skills and passion for our mission will help us recruit more students and partner with more universities and corporations
as we promote STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math) among high-achieving undergraduates across America.”

SRC is the world’s leading university-research consortium for semiconductors and related technologies. Education Alliance is SRC’s private foundation that develops funding sources and offers enhanced education through hands-on research experiences and meaningful interaction
with scientists and engineers working in technology industries. It concentrates on bridging the undergraduate gap in STEM education between increasingly strong K-12 programs and top graduate schools.

Through scholarships and fellowships, Education Alliance connects students with science- and technology-based industries, demonstrating the excitement and value of transforming research into useful technologies and products that create jobs and enhance quality of life.

Education Alliance is already funding 230 scholarships for undergraduates in STEM majors this year at 14 universities across America. Plans call for developing more funding sources and raising those numbers dramatically in the near future.

SRC’s unique, award-winning approach features an industry-driven consortium that supports and guides coordinated university research programs and prepares students for high-tech careers. Since it was founded in 1982, SRC has invested more than $1.5 billion in university research, supporting more than 8,500 students and 1,900 faculty members at more than 100 universities in pre-competitive research and through prestigious internships at top technology-driven companies.
