Blackhawk delivers first bus-powered XDS560v2 for TI's multicore DSPs

MOUNT LAUREL, USA: Blackhawk, a leader in the design of digital signal processor (DSP) hardware and software development tools for Texas Instruments Inc.'s (TI) digital signal processors (DSPs), announced availability of its bus-powered XDS560v2 System Trace Emulator for TI's TMS320C64x multicore DSPs.

The emulator (BH560v2) is based on the system trace reference design (XDS560v2) from TI and is the next-generation of the high-performance XDS560-class technology first made available by Blackhawk with the USB560/LAN560 and XDS560 Trace.

The new emulator shares some features of other 560-class emulators from Blackhawk.

Most notable is the bus-powered capability, which means the emulator needs no external power source when used as a USB device. The Blackhawk XDS560v2-BP can also be connected to a LAN via an integrated Ethernet port. In addition to traditional JTAG (IEEE 1149.1), the XDS560v2 adds support for IEEE 1149.7 (previously known as cJTAG) and system trace (STM), an interface on the TI heterogeneous multicore devices.

He goes on to say, "Blackhawk's line of tools to support the Texas Instruments DSPs allows us to reach customers that require DSP technology in lieu of or in addition to general purpose 32-bit RISC architectures."

Brian Nix, President of EWA Technologies, the parent company of Blackhawk, stated: "From the start, our bus-powered XDS560v2 was designed to be in a class by itself, as our products have been since our introduction of the first bus-powered XDS560. We always work to significantly differentiate our products from those of other developers - to provide capability not available in other products."

The Blackhawk XDS560v2 System Trace is also available in an Ethernet-powered model which uses an IEEE 802.11af compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch or injector. This model provides the ability to connect through the network when the USB ports are not available and a stand-alone configuration is required.

The Blackhawk emulator product line covers a wide spectrum of capabilities and features, from a very low cost controller, which sells for $99, all the way up to the XDS560v2 System Trace. A full list can be found on the company's website.
