Synerchip’s DiiVA ICs power affordable home entertainment network solutions at CES

2011 International CES, LAS VEGAS, USA: Home entertainment network solutions provider Synerchip Co. Ltd will demonstrate Digital Interactive Interface for Video & Audio (DiiVA) devices powered by its first-to-market DiiVA 1.1 semiconductors at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

On display are digital televisions from manufacturing partners Hisense, Konka, LG, Skyworth and TCL — all using Synerchip’s SC6010 DiiVA Receiver IC.

Also featured are DiiVA reference designs from System-on-Chip (SoC) partners Sigma Designs with an IPTV set-top box and media adapter and MediaTek with a Blu-ray player. Both source-device reference designs incorporate Synerchip’s SC6002 DiiVA Daisy Chain Transmitter IC to deliver DiiVA functionality.

Bringing all DiiVA DTVs and source devices together into a network is Synerchip’s SC6040, the world’s first native DiiVA matrix switch with four DiiVA input ports and two DiiVA output ports. The SC6040 is capable of switching video from any input to any output, as well as multi-casting the video to both outputs.

Data, including USB and Ethernet, can be switched from any port to any other port. The SC6040 features an integrated Ethernet port as well as I2S and SPDIF outputs providing an ideal solution for AV receivers and other multimedia switching devices.

“We are now supplying all the necessary components and underlying software to deliver a DiiVA-based home entertainment network solution,” said Dr. David Lee, CEO of Synerchip. “In addition to the DiiVA physical interface and networking protocol, Synerchip will also support the middleware and APIs necessary for manufacturers and 3rd parties to develop value-added software applications that ‘personalize’, manage and control content across the DiiVA network. Until now, such features only existed in very expensive, high-end custom solutions, but DiiVA makes a robust home entertainment experience affordable for everyone.”

“DiiVA is a key technology for our next generation of Smart TVs,” said Ji Bai, director of engineering and R&D at Skyworth. Mr. Bai added, “Synerchip’s implementation of DiiVA will help us pioneer new ways to cost-effectively network TVs with other entertainment devices, giving users a new and more compelling entertainment experience while greatly simplifying navigation and control.”

DiiVA enables the creation of a new multimedia networking paradigm that combines uncompressed video, audio, USB, Ethernet, control and power management. While leveraging existing technologies such as DLNA and UPnP for content discovery, DiiVA fills a significant gap by automatically discovering the format decode and rendering capabilities of all DiiVA-connected devices, and then routing content to the most appropriate device for decode and/or rendering, via compressed or uncompressed video streams, to any connected display.

“With DiiVA, Sigma Designs-powered IPTV set-top boxes and digital media players can act as a gateway between the DiiVA network and mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. This enables users to conveniently find, play and control their favorite content on any screen in the home,” said David Lynch, vice president and general manager, Media Processor Group at Sigma Designs. “We are excited to partner with Synerchip to bring these new features to market.”

The SC6010 DiiVA Receiver, SC6002 DiiVA Daisy Chain Transmitter and SC6040 DiiVA Switch have been pre-tested against the DiiVA Compliance Test Specification (CTS) to conform to the newly released DiiVA 1.1 Specification — providing manufacturers a quick and easy path to bring DiiVA compliant solutions to market.
