Sanxing selects IDT energy metering IC for single phase smart energy meter

SAN JOSE, USA: Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) announced that the IDT single-phase energy metering IC has been selected by Ningbo Sanxing Electric Co., Ltd., a leading electricity meter manufacturer, for use in its single-phase smart energy meter. Sanxing selected the IDT energy metering IC because it provides the widest dynamic range of all high-accuracy solutions on the market.

The IDT90E24 belongs to a family of high-performance energy metering ICs for single-phase two-wire, single-phase three-wire or electricity meters with anti-tampering mode. It offers the industry’s widest dynamic range of 5000:1, enabling accurate measurement of several tens of kilowatts down to just a few watts.

The device is ideal for measuring large power consumption during peak load hours, and also for measuring small amounts of generated power from renewable sources such as solar and wind during off-peak hours; all within a single smart energy meter.

“IDT’s newly released IDT90E24 product features a wide dynamic range, making it suitable for applications with a wide metering range requirement. It passed all of Sanxing’s internal tests and won positive recognition from our customers,” said Zhongxiang Zhou, chief electronic meter engineer at Sanxing Electric Co., Ltd.

“We are pleased to have our smart energy meter selected by Sanxing. The success of our metering products is another demonstration of IDT’s innovation and ingenuity,” said Sean Fan, vice president and general manager of IDT China.

“Our products offer high accuracy and the widest dynamic range in the industry, which facilitate our customers’ ability to combine multiple energy metering devices into a single, versatile product. As a result, the design and manufacturing process is simplified, allowing our customers to pass all required testing in a shortened timeframe. We will continue to deliver complete smart metering solutions to benefit both meter manufacturers and utilities economically and environmentally.”

The IDT90E2x is offered in a Pb-free 28-lead SSOP package, and is designed for long-term stability over variations in ambient environmental and grid conditions. The device is fully compliant with IEC62052-11, IEC62053-21 and IEC62053-23 specifications for class 1 or class 2 single-phase watt-hour meters or class 2 single-phase var-hour meters.
