MediaTek to showcase world's first 120Hz SoC solutions for 3D TV

2011 International CES, LAS VEGAS, USA: MediaTek Inc., a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions, will showcase the world's first 120Hz SoC solutions for 3D TV at 2011 International CES (the International Consumer Electronics Show), which aims to provide an astonishing 3D experience to consumers.

Meanwhile, it introduces its Smart TV solutions triggering the next revolution of Digital Home. With MediaTek's advanced technologies, the new series of smart TV solutions features the enhancement of the wireless connectivity in terms of speed and stability. With its innovative technology and robust service, MediaTek strives to assist its global customers in reinforcing their leading market positions launching high-quality, next-generation 3D and Smart TVs.

For the TV industry, 2010 has been marked as "the debut of 3D and Smart TV era". According to the latest DisplaySearch forecast, the estimated shipments of 3D TV in 2010 is 3.4 million, and the 3D TV market penetration rate is expected to grow from 5 percent of total flat panel TVs in 2010 to 37 percent in 2014. Further, connected TV is to reach new height with over 40 million units in 2010 to 118 million in 2014.

In 2011 International CES, MediaTek will demonstrate a complete 3D TV solution, featuring 120Hz and 240Hz pattern retarder/ shutter glasses 3D TV technologies. The world's first 120Hz SoC solutions for pattern retarder/ shutter glasses 3D TV can support not only multiview video coding (MVC), but also various 3D media formats, including 3D VOD (Video on Demand), VC-1, 3D Blu-ray and broadcasting. With MediaTek's advanced 3D technologies, TV has transformed from a traditional display device to taking center stage in home entertainment.

Aside from 3D TV solutions, MediaTek will also demonstrate its latest Smart TV solutions. The Smart TV solutions support video calls, video on demand, and wireless connection. Through wireless standards such as Bluetooth and wireless PAN, the consumers can enjoy faster and higher-quality video entertainment.
