Exar adds to PowerBlox line of step-down converters

electronica 2010, FREMONT, USA & MUNICH, GERMANY: Exar Corp. has unveiled the XRP7664, a new synchronous Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) step-down converter with a maximum load current of 2 Amps and operating input voltage of up to 18V.

This device is the latest addition to Exar's industry acclaimed PowerBlox family of high-voltage, high-current step-down regulators.

"This 2 Amp solution complements our existing 3, 6, 8 and 12 Amp converters from Exar's PowerBlox family and is part of Exar's continuous effort to provide designers with higher performing, cost effective solutions for point of load conversions," said Eric Pittana, director of marketing, Power Product Line.

"Further, the XRP7664 fills a pressing request from our customers for a technically viable and cost competitive alternative to other popular step-down converters."

Optimized for a 12V input voltage rail, yet equally capable of operating from the popular 5V rail, the XRP7664 addresses the needs for smaller footprint and substantial savings in cost sensitive applications.

These include audio-video equipment such as set-top boxes, telecom, computing peripherals and more generally distributed point-of-load conversions.
