2011 International CES, SAN JOSE, USA: Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) and ICT-LANTO, a leading high frequency interconnect solutions provider, announced the introduction of the industry’s first DisplayPort-over-Ethernet adapter based on the IDT VLX1000 PanelPort LinkXtend device.
This product enables the transmission of DisplayPort signals over standard Ethernet cables for a cost effective long distance display cabling solution, perfect for projectors and digital signage applications.
The IDT VLX1000 PanelPort LinkXtend is a DisplayPort-based device that provides amplification, re-drive capability, and signal reconditioning for extended cable links from computers to remote monitors, projectors, and digital signage.
The device is the world’s first solution to provide jitter clean up and full link layer repeater functionality in a single chip. It can be connected serially through standard Ethernet cables, offering a cost effective full HD digital display connectivity solution for enterprise, small business and home environments.
“The IDT VLX1000 is an ideal device for use in this type of innovative DisplayPort interconnect adapter,” said Jerry Tsai, general manager of ICT-LANTO. “DisplayPort is becoming a common digital display interface for PCs and monitors. As the adoption of DisplayPort increases, so will the need for long distance cabling solutions, which can be cost and performance prohibitive if customers wish to enable High Bit Rate (HBR) connections. Our new DisplayPort-to-RJ-45 adapter solves this issue by allowing the use of inexpensive networking cables to transmit uncompressed DisplayPort digital display and audio data.”
The IDT VLX1000 supports up to four lanes with link rates of 2.7 Gbps for a total of 10.8 Gbps bandwidth that allows up to 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution. The device offers full Hollywood content security support and requires no external power source for use in adapters or dongles, removing the need for bulky power converters.
“AMD, Dell, Intel, Lenovo, Samsung Electronics and LG Display recently announced intentions to accelerate adoption of scalable and lower power digital interfaces such as DisplayPort into the PC,” said Ji Park, vice president and general manager of the Video and Display Operation at IDT. “Devices such as the IDT VLX1000 and other DisplayPort products from IDT will help to enable this transition. Adapters and translators from companies such as ICT-LANTO that make use of the IDT DisplayPort solutions broaden the overall ecosystem and ease the adoption of DisplayPort devices.”
“This is a key product innovation from IDT and ICT-LANTO that leverages the unique technical features of DisplayPort to reduce end-user solution costs and enable broader adoption of DisplayPort in projectors and monitors,” said Bruce Montag, chairman of the Video Electronics Standards Association.
