SAN FRANCISCO, USA: UBM Electronics, a UBM company and the daily source of essential business and technical information for the electronics industry’s decision makers, announced the selection of the teardown projects that will be presented at the DesignCon Conference Jan. 31-Feb. 4 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, Calif.
The projects, selected by Ron Wilson, editorial director, EDN and EE Times Design Lines, include a “smackdown” comparison of the Dell Streak and Samsung Galaxy tablets conducted by UBM Electronics editorial director Brian Fuller and EDN technology editor Paul Rako and, separately, an analysis and look inside the hottest holiday gift of the season, Microsoft’s Kinect gaming device under the direction of EDN editor Brian Dipert and iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens.
The teardowns will be held from 2-4 pm. Tuesday, February 1, in the ChipHead Theater. Also, session attendees can swipe their badges for a chance to win one of the devices.
In addition to attending the keynotes from executives at Agilent, Rambus and Xilinx, and 14 technical tracks, attendees will also be able to listen in on EE Times’ EE Life editorial director Brian Fuller’s Fireside Chat with Amir Aghdaei Tektronix CEO, as Amir reflects upon Tek’s 65 years in the business and design challenges in the years ahead. The fireside chat takes place from 4-4:30 pm in the ChipHead Theatre.
Rick Nelson, editorial director, Test & Measurement World, will host a theater session titled: “What are You Worth? The Test and Measurement World Salary Survey Results” from 1:00pm — 1:50pm.
Engineers will be able to learn if their salary is keeping up with their growing set of skills and responsibilities. Benchmark comparisons round out the discussion which concludes with an exploration of new trends in the engineering profession.
With a record number of exhibitors, Design Con maintains its position as the industry’s most prestigious electronics design conference. Celebrating its 15-year anniversary, the conference will host parties for exhibitors and attendees on February 1st from 4:45 pm to 6 pm and on February 2nd from 5 pm to 6 pm. During the party on February 1, the DesignCon Vision Award winners will be announced.
“DesignCon has flourished over the past 15 years,” said David Blaza, vice president, UBM Electronics. “This is because the conference owners established and delivered, year after year, a highly technical conference created by engineers for engineers. As the new owners of the conference, we are honored to take this vision forward and this year’s conference will demonstrate our commitment to delivering content that will challenge and guide the industry’s design practices.”
