SAN JOSE, USA: Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) has announced its new real-time clock with temperature compensation, providing high accuracy over the full industrial temperature range. In addition, this new family of timing devices also features tamper-detect functionality to help protect systems that are prone to hacking.
The IDT 5T90008 features temperature compensation to improve system accuracy over a wide temperature range in applications such as energy meters and telecommunications systems. It also takes a temperature measurement every 64 seconds and adjusts the loading of the internal crystal as needed, providing an accuracy of +/- 5ppm from -40 degrees to 85 degrees Celsius.
Applications such as utility metering, HVAC, point-of-sale terminals, security alarms, vending machines, and security-related equipment and systems are prone to hacking by extraction of information or modification of the internal settings.
Another member of the family, the IDT 5T90012, provides tamper-detect functionality without the temperature compensation feature found in the IDT 5T90008. The IDT 5T90008 and 5T90012 also have four tamper detect pins to detect such incidents and store the time and length of the event.
The IDT 5T90008 and 5T90012 real-time clocks feature 128 bytes of battery-backed RAM to store critical system data in event the main power is lost. These new timing devices also feature a back-up battery pin, which has power-sense circuitry to detect a loss of primary power and automatically switch to the backup supply. This helps maintain time and date operation in the event of a power loss.
The family of IDT real-time clocks is ultra-low power clock/data devices with programmable time-of-day alarms and programmable square-wave outputs. These devices, including upcoming additional members of the family, offer high noise immunity, low current consumption, 12/24-hour mode of operation, auto correction for leap years and programmable square wave output, making them ideal for a wide range of design applications.
The IDT 5T90012 is currently sampling and available in a 16-pin small-outline integrated circuit (SOIC) package. The IDT 5T90008 is currently sampling and available in a 20-pin SOIC package. The IDT 5T90008 is priced at $2.50 each in 10,000-unit quantities, and the IDT 5T90012 is priced at $2.00 each for 10,000-unit quantities.
