NEWPORT BEACH, USA: Conexant Systems Inc. has introduced a new highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) controller for consumer 4-in-1 color inkjet and monochrome laser multifunction printers (MFPs) with printing, copying, scanning, and faxing capabilities.
The CX92135 integrates the company’s market-leading V.34 software fax modem, which eliminates the need for an external modem chip and lowers bill-of-material (BOM) costs. An integrated scanner analog front-end further reduces BOM component count and system costs.
Additional features include Conexant’s proprietary hardware image pipeline architecture, which improves MFP system performance and enables industry-leading image quality. This also ensures firmware-compatibility with Conexant’s previous generation MFP solutions. The CX92135 is available in production quantities now.
“We are committed to providing our customers with additional value by driving higher levels of integration and functionality in our solutions,” said Phil Pompa, senior vice president of product marketing for Conexant. “Our new product reflects this commitment by providing customers with our proven fax modem technology at a lower cost. We will continue to apply our core expertise in imaging and facsimile technologies to strengthen our MFP portfolio with competitive, high-performance printing solutions.”
Conexant has shipped more than 300 million fax modems to customers globally, more than any other company.
The CX92135 is based on a high-performance ARM 32-bit core with an integrated memory management unit (MMU) that delivers the processing power required for high-speed imaging applications.
The new SoC supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet connectivity, and includes an integrated camera card, one USB 2.0 device port and host port, and a synchronous serial peripheral bus. These features allow users to easily download and print photos or documents stored on cameras and flash drives. The CX92135 also has an integrated low voltage differential signal (LVDS) interface to support the newest generation of printer engines and LCD displays.
The highly integrated MFP SoC includes an embedded memory card controller, LCD controller, and support for touch-screen functionality. In addition to the integrated V.34 fax modem, the CX92135 features Conexant’s proprietary SmartDAA solution. This technology allows manufacturers to program the integrated modem for use in virtually any geography, eliminating the need for multiple country-specific SKUs.
Conexant’s comprehensive imaging product portfolio includes highly integrated MFP SoCs for inkjet, laser, and photo printers. The company also offers fax SoCs and datapump solutions, and high-performance system solutions for “connected” frames and interactive display devices.
The CX92135 is packaged in a Green/RoHS compliant, low profile 14x14 mm 289 pin, fine pitch ball grid array. It is priced at $10 each in quantities of 10K. A complete hardware and software development kit is also available.
