Conexant debuts new single-function printer controller

NEWPORT BEACH, USA: Conexant Systems Inc. announced the CX92161, a highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) optimized for laser single-function printers (SFPs) and thermal label printers. Featuring a powerful 32-bit microprocessor core with embedded double data rate (DDR) synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM), the CX92161 also has enhanced printer engine direct control features – including a flexible, programmable peripheral interface controller.

Conexant's CX92161 is a highly integrated printer controller with unique capabilities and system features. The chip features a high-performance ARM microprocessor, a programmable laser, LED, Inkjet and thermal print-head interfaces, print formatter, USB device, USB host and SDIO for WiFi, and Ethernet MAC. The embedded SDRAM enables a two-layer PCB for system cost optimization and streamlined sourcing – freeing OEMs from having to procure the memory component themselves. The CX92161 enables fast, cost-effective designs and production processes for digital imaging products.

“The CX92161 is the latest addition to Conexant’s comprehensive desktop printing product line,” said Sailesh Chittipeddi, president and CEO, Conexant. “We leveraged our MFP architecture and tailored the SoC for SFPs. In doing so, the CX92161 is a highly integrated controller with exceptional performance that dramatically reduces the SFP system costs.”
