UPPSALA, SWEDEN: IAR Systems announced support for the ARM Cortex-A5 core within IAR Embedded Workbench. Adding to the extensive list of ARM cores already supported by IAR Embedded Workbench, this is the first of the Cortex ‘A’ high performance application processor cores to benefit from the features of this comprehensive tool chain.
The ARM Cortex-A5 processor suits a very wide range of applications. From ultra low cost handsets, feature phones and smart mobile devices, to pervasive embedded, consumer and industrial devices. The Cortex-A5 processor provides a high-end migration path for existing ARM926EJ-S and ARM1176JZ-S processor designs.
"IAR Systems is highly committed to support ARM’s current and future technology," said Fredrik Medin, marketing director, IAR Systems. "Our early support of Cortex-A5 is another example of our ability to provide developers with powerful and reliable tools, and to be in the fore front of ARM Cortex developments."
IAR Embedded Workbench is one of the most widely used tool chains for ARM. It is recognized for its efficient code generation and the compiler contains both generic global optimizations as well as low-level chip-specific optimizations that ensure a small code size while taking advantage of all the specific features of selected devices.
Besides an extensive support for wide range of ARM devices it also provide a wide support for hardware debug systems and RTOSes. IAR Embedded Workbench contains configuration files, code examples and template projects to get you going fast. IAR Embedded Workbench is compatible with other ARM EABI compliant compilers.
