SUNNYVALE, USA: InvenSense Inc., the leader in consumer motion processing solutions, today announced that iSuppli has ranked the company as the number one MEMS gyroscope supplier for consumer electronics for 2009 in terms of market share.
According to the MEMS market brief published by iSuppli in December 2009, gyroscopes used in gaming nearly tripled in 2009 to $94 million driven mainly by the new Nintendo Wii Motion Plus™ accessory that includes an InvenSense dual-axis gyro. The company was also first to introduce a 3-axis gyroscope to the market for consumer electronic products.
“InvenSense was ranked as the number one gyroscope supplier for 2009 in terms of market share in CE and achieved this rank largely due to its position as the primary gyro supplier for the popular Wii Motion Plus, and for being first to reach the market with an integrated 3-axis gyro targeting consumer applications,” said Richard Dixon, MEMS senior analyst at iSuppli.
“MEMS growth in consumer electronics and mobile phones is expected to reach 25.6 percent in 2010 compared to 6.8 percent in 2009, and we expect MEMS gyroscopes to make significant inroads in mobile phone human-interface applications, to the benefit of the few companies currently in this market segment.”
“We are very honored to be recognized by iSuppli as the company of the year in 2009 and largest provider of consumer gyroscopes,” said Steve Nasiri, InvenSense founder and CEO. “As one of the only private and fabless MEMS providers in the market, we are thankful to our innovative team and great suppliers who helped us to achieve this recognition.”
InvenSense was ranked number two behind STMicroelectronics on the 2008 iSuppli list, the company’'s first appearance in the iSuppli annual MEMS company of the year ranking.
