BANGALORE, INDIA: Ittiam Systems has announced that the company has successfully deployed a wide array of media processing and communication technologies in the explosive markets for Smart Phones and Tablets.
Founded in 2001, Ittiam has been a leading supplier of media processing and communication technologies for end products such as portable media players/recorders, digital camcorders, set-top-boxes, in-transport infotainment, IP video phones, video conference equipment, video surveillance and media broadcast systems.
In the recent two years, Ittiam has successfully applied many of its field-hardened technologies built through extensive R&D to provide advanced features for Smart Phones and Tablets.
In the current financial year FY2010-11 ending on March 31, 2011 Ittiam would have close to six million high end smart phones and tablets sold by its customers that embed its multimedia technology for 720p high-definition video player and camcorder functions. To speed up customers’ time to market, Ittiam has delivered high performance multimedia codecs, use case applications and system integration support.
“Our aim is to enable our OEM customers to build smart phones and tablets with the best-in-class movie player, camera and video conference features on par with individual gadgets designed for those functions”, said Srini Rajam, chairman and CEO of Ittiam Systems.
“We expect the end product units with our technologies to grow rapidly by 3X over the next three years with the addition of our leading edge multi-party video communication and advanced audio-video-imaging functions. We will focus on this high growth market along with our traditional focus on consumer and communication markets which have formed our foundation. The idea is to bring high end functions to the mobile world as well as take back cool innovations from the mobile world to the traditional markets.”
“Ittiam has shown the ability to foresee the demands of new applications and meet them with its technology innovations”, commented Will Strauss, president of Forward Concepts. “Its market-proven media system capabilities have now found a new home in the smart phone and tablet world which it can penetrate even deeper,” he said.
Ittiam has achieved sustained profit and growth in the first decade of its operation becoming a dependable, long-term player in the embedded systems design space. The company has two strong venture capital investors in Global Technology Ventures (GTV) and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, who have cumulatively invested a capital of $13.5 million in Ittiam.
