Ittiam to showcase industry's first full HD video calling solution for smartphones and tablets

MWC 2012, BANGALORE, INDIA: Following the win of two of 2011 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Awards, Ittiam announced the latest version of its VCS Mobile. VCS Mobile is a video communication system targeted for smartphones and tablets delivering enterprise-grade performance. It enables full HD peer to peer and multi-party video calling on mobile devices.

"Smartphones and tablets will drive the next level of growth in video conferencing, the powerful processors that power these devices in addition with growing high speed connectivity makes it possible for users to engage in high quality video calling on the go," said Anil Kumar, manager, video communication system.

"With VCS Mobile we are in a position to cater to all video conferencing needs of a business, ranging from desktop video phones, high definition video conferencing systems, telepresence systems and now portable devices. VCS Mobile will also be made available on popular commercially available tablets and smartphones to allow for a wider adoption."

VCS Mobile is available on the OMAP4460 platform from Texas Instruments (TI), running Android. It leverages the rich set of API's and hardware accelerators on the TI's OMAP 4 platform to deliver 1080p peer to peer video calling and up to 6-way multi-party calls thanks to Ittiam's embedded bridge technology. The efficient implementation of VCS Mobile on OMAP 4 platform enables users to multi-task with additional applications such as desktop virtualization, while participating in a video conference.

Salient features of VCS Mobile on the OMAP 4 platform include:
* Peer-to-peer video calling at 1080p.
* Ittiam's patent pending embedded bridging technology allows you to host multi party conferences on your smartphone/tablet.
* Full-duplex Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) to ensure an exceptional audio experience.
* Intelligent, auto-adaptive bandwidth allocator to learn and adapt to the continuously changing network conditions.

"Ittiam continues to optimize its mobile HD video teleconferencing technology on TI's apps processors, hooking into the advanced smart multicore features brought with each new OMAP processor," said Fred Cohen, director, OMAP platform ecosystem, TI. "The latest VCS Mobile experience—a full HD conferencing experience with real-time multitasking driven on a single OMAP4460 processor—captures a compelling use case for the enterprise, made possible through Ittiam's innovation."
